When he first met Jesus, Peter was immediately impacted by the contrast of his own sinful life and the holiness of the prophet standing before him. “Depart from me, Lord,” he exclaimed, “for I am a sinful man!” But Jesus would have none of that. Instead of leaving Peter, Jesus invited him to follow Him and be part of His ministry. Understandably, Peter was overwhelmed at the thought that God was giving him a second chance. But when he learned the limitations of a second chance, he discovered how much more Jesus really gave him.

The Passion of the Christ

Eight years ago, movie critics blasted The Passion of the Christ as being too violent…there was too much blood, they said; it was unnecessarily brutal. But it was exactly what the Romans had in mind. Scourging and crucifixion were meant to be the most violent forms of torture, with only death providing a means of escape. History tells us the movie got it right; it depicted the suffering of Christ realistically. And that’s what the Passion means; it refers to the enormous pain Jesus suffered in those hours leading up to His death on the cross.

We will explore the different seasons or stages of our Christian walk and how we can be on fire at times and wandering at other times.

Knowledge and those who seek it are heavily praised throughout the Bible. But under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle Paul once wrote that "Knowledge puffs up but love builds up." That's because seeking knowledge apart from the Holy Spirit is a vain endeavor. It's the Holy Spirit who breathes life into theological truth, giving us both the spiritual ability to understand it and the power to experience it in our lives.
 

We’re going to start trusting Him where we’ve been afraid. We’re going to start adding rocket fuel to our prayers. We’re going to start seeing breakthroughs in areas where there’s been no way anything can possibly change. We’re going to start setting big, audacious goals that only God can help us achieve. We are going to renew our passion for God.
 

One infamous innkeeper turned away Joseph and Mary on the verge of the Savior's birth. But he's not the only one to turn away the Savior. On reflection, we may find areas in our own lives in which we have posted a "No Vacancy" sign when the Lord comes calling.
