Dear Civic-Minded Readers,
Just as the Israelites faced giants in their path to where God was leading them, so too America today finds herself facing what seem to be incredible obstacles ahead. Life has changed since the pandemic. Our enemies seem numerous and obscure. Politicians preach “safety” while overriding constitutional rights. Because our society lacks an understanding of the biblical foundation of human rights, the direction of our country is determined by whoever is in charge at the moment. Other giants have risen up as well: a media complex with an anti-God agenda, in-fighting among conservative groups and the rise of alliances between Socialist/Marxist candidates and far-left Progressives, who have Israel as their main target. Added to the mix is the growth of mosques and muslims holding political office while promoting Sharia Law (learn more here). In short, we have giants in our land.
The question is, how should we respond? Ezekiel 38 and 39 highlight some extremes that confronted the Old Testament Israelites. Ezekiel 38: 15-16 in particular speaks of an army from the north that will “come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land.” It may be tempting to ask, “Why did God allow this?” The Bible tells us that He did it, “so that the nations may know Me when I show Myself holy through you before their eyes, Gog.” Even in the midst of seeming disaster, God had a purpose and a plan.
In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehosophat, surrounded by enemies, proclaims a fast and gathers his people in a sacred assembly. He ends his prayer, “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” We must do the same. This November Missouri will decide if full-term abortion and sex-change operations for minors without parental consent will continue in Missouri (learn more here). We have already seen God move in our August Primary elections (learn more here) but what will God’s people do?
We already have our commands from God: focus your eyes on Jesus, our Hope and our Deliverer, keep praise in your heart and on your lips and take action. Jehosophat’s army didn’t win by watching from the sidelines. The effort is ours, the results are in God’s hands. Don’t fall into the trap of those who oppose us: this world is not meant to be “safe”, it’s meant to serve God and others. What does that look like for you?
